Turn to God
1. God created our universe and continues to rule it.
'Thine O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth" (1 Chronicles 29:11)
- He will hold us responsible for the way we live our lives on it.
'So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God' ( Romans 14:12)
2. God created us for Himself.
'..for Thou has created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created (Revelation 4:11)
3. Sin stops us from experiencing the life God has intended for us.
'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23)
- Sin separates us from God.
'remember that you were at that time separate from Christ...having no hope and without God' (Ephesians 2:12)
- Sin leaves us guilty because we have broken God's law.
'sin is the transgression (breaking) of the law' (1 John 3:4)
- Sin brings fear of future punishment.
'it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgement' (Hebrews 8:27)
4. In His holiness, God could not receive a sinful person into His presence.
- In His justice, God demanded the penalty of sin (death and separation) be paid.
- In His grace, God Himself:
*became a man (in Christ)
*became sin for us
*took the full penalty for sin, death, on the cross
*purchased the right for us to come back into the Father's presence
'He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross' (1 Peter 2:24)
'While we were still sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5:8)
'Christ died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order to bring us to God' (1 Peter 3:18)
5. Jesus Christ has not only been raised from the dead, but has been declared Lord and King over all creation.
'at the name of Jesus every knee should bow ...and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord' (Phillipians 2:10,11)
6. We have to turn to God wholeheartedly in repentance and faith.
- Repentance means changing our mind. In relation to God, it means a complete about-turn from sin to serve God.
- Faith is an inward certainty that when Christ went to the cross, He took every sin and the judgement for them, and that now I'm completely forgiven and accepted by God.
'Solemnly testifying...of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ' (Acts 16:31)
'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved' (Acts 16:31)
